Visiting Artist

Deon Lewis

Deon Lewis is a fiber artist using fabric as her medium. She creates a design and turns it into a pattern.  Then she lays down fabric to create line and value. The fabric is then embedded with thread and quilted to create texture and a dynamic and unique composition.

She was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, where she learned to quilt at the young age of 12 and has honed her talents as a fiber artist for over 20 years. She has always been drawn to the complexities of nature especially flowers and animals.  Her typical medium of choice includes fabric, fibers, thread and acrylic paint or ink.

She has spent many years studying quilting and collages. Recently she has experimented in eco-printing on silk and enjoys using nature that is at hand. She also enjoys silk screening and incorporating that in her work.
